The idea for the Kings of Brighton Beach Series started with a simple “what if?” On weekday mornings my husband claims to commute to Manhattan for a job in “business.” But what if that wasn’t what he really did?
What if I learned our entire life together was a lie and that he was a spy or a member of the Russian mafia? What if he was guilty of terrible crimes that endangered our family and others? What if my love for him was at odds with justice?
I dug deeper, obsessively researching the Russian mafia in New York, and its evolution from its inception in the Soviet gulags to its very bloody and brutal history in America in the 1990s to its current transformation as a loosely organized set of crafty and clever international crews, some with strong ties to Russian and other post-Soviet states, and specializing in white-collar crimes like money-laundering and fraud.
From there, an ensemble cast of characters evolved then took over, driving this crime thriller with suspenseful plots and competing for the spotlight in this thriller saga of crime, betrayal, revenge, justice, and love.
